10 Wedding Cake Alternatives

 wedding cake alternative ideas

One of my hopes with my stationery shop is to help brides reflect their personality into their engagement and weddings. So, finding new twists on old traditions is one of my favorite things to scout out. A few months ago, I posted 15 alternatives to a guest book and you guys loved it! So, today, we're going to talk wedding cake alternatives. I hope this list helps you break out of the traditional and find a cute and gorgeous idea that reflects you and your fiancee!

1. Waffle Cake

I LOVE this idea! If you're a breakfast for every meal kind of a person, this is a unique and fun alternative to traditional wedding cake. Cutting it may be tricky, so maybe this one is just for show and you can have pre-made waffles, already plated and ready to go, in the back. ;)

2. Donut Cake

If my husband had seen this picture when we got married 7 years ago, I think his eyes would've bulged. He loves donuts. And I know he's not alone! You can offer so many more flavors and colors with a donut bar! And, it's just so fun.

3. Cannolis

Cannolis are my weakness! Nothing better than a crunchy exterior and gooey, delightful interior. Just like the donut bar, these are easy for people to grab and get to dancing!

4. Rice Krispies

You are never too old for a rice krispie! And, with the extra gooey marshmallow layers, the result is absolutely stunning.

5. Macarons

Macarons are definitely having their day in the wedding world! I'm seeing more and more macaron wedding cakes. And with good reason - they're delicious and gorgeous. Win, win! Stacked up like this and decorated with a few florals, it'll be perfect as an alternative wedding cake.

6. Choco Tacos

This might be a Southern state thing because clearly we can't get enough of our tacos. Choco tacos were my favorite dessert growing up and seeing them as a wedding cake alternative makes my little 8 year old heart sing! Love Bakes Good Cakes even includes a recipe to make your own, so you could save a little bit of money doing this yourself!

7. Chocolate Chip Wedding Cake

So, maybe you want to keep the traditional shape of a wedding cake, but want to mix up the inside a little bit? Then this cookie cake might be just what you're looking for. It's obviously worlds different than the cookie cakes you can buy at the mall, but I imagine it tastes just as good.

8. Mini Pies

If you're planning a fall wedding, these mini pies would be a gorgeous alternative to a wedding cake. Cook them in cute little pans, wrap them up with flannel and a mini fork and you're finished. They'd make great photos and be a fun surprise for all your guests.

9. Cheesecake

This one is a personal favorite because it's what I did for my own wedding! We purchased tons of cheesecake and loved having so many different options for our guests. We still got to do the traditional cutting of the cake, but it was a fun alternative to a traditional cake itself.

10. Popsicle Bar

Popsicles are so cute and they make for adorable photos, too. Hire a popsicle cart for the evening and serve up these delicious treats in lieu of a wedding cake. This would be perfect for a summer wedding to help guests cool down. Or, soak them in a glass of prosecco or cocktail to make them a little more adult.
